Studying normative standards: gas contamination control and security

The question of fire security when you use hydrocarbon gases should be raised to an adequate level. And not only during the mounting of gas detection analyzer and placing fire extinguishers but also as an “optional knowledge”.

documents)

We offer you to close this gap, at least briefly, without quoting and study some regulations from normative documents concerning security of buildings and gas equipment. You can find original texts of safety rules, technical regulations and other requirements concerning this matter following the links which are in the end of this article.

So, what do the norms speak about the question of “gas: security”:

  • Project documentation should consider measures which prevent explosive materials overaccumulation in the room where one of the ways is to use devises detecting air pollution.
  • Gas control devices installed in the room together with domestic gas equipment should guarantee reliable prevention of failures and accidents.
  • Connecting points of gas equipment to gas pipeline should provide access and be opened.
  • There should be the possibility to disconnect any item of gas using equipment.
  • In boiler rooms and kitchens smoke detection requires light and sound alarm signal for cases of dangerous gas accumulation.
  • Checkout system should continuously control gas concentration in the air inside the room.
  • Shutdown devices should be installed in the point of gas pipeline input to the building and in the embranchment points to the equipment.
  • Gas hazard warning device should be activated when gas concentration exceeds 20% from the lower concentration limit which provokes flame spreading.
  • Plants operated on liquefied petroleum gas should be equipped with locked in, protecting and warning systems.
  • Completely automated boilers should have sensory devises controlling carbon monoxide content which are mounted next to the entrance.
  • Gasified rooms should be equipped with systems of fire security and gas hazard control with automatic gas supply shutdown (connection with electromagnetic valve).
  • Domestic gas appliance and portable gas using equipment can be connected to gas pipelines only using flexible hoses.
  • All pipe connections should be fixed.
  • Electromagnetic valve can be common for all the building.
  • Natural gas pipelines are allowed to be installed in basement and on entrance floor of only private houses.
  • Equipment for independent boilers should be installed in individual place inaccessible for unauthorized people.
  • Gas pipeline inlet should be provided directly to the boiler room.
  • If electromagnetic security valve is situated out of the construction and overlaps gas pipeline, in case when fire security device or gas detection analyzer are activated, thermally-sensitive cut-off valve should not be installed in the buildings.
  • And about many other things …

Enjoy this useful studying!
